Medal Winner wins Honorary President Cup

Medal Winner clinched the HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa (Honorary President) Cup yesterday, in the feature event on a packed eight-race card at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Riffa.

REHC High Committee chairman His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended yesterday’s races along with other high-ranking officials. Medal Winner lived up to its name and won for Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Hussain Aldailami, while saddled by Paddy Mathers.

The 103-rated five-year-old completed the 12-furlong race for imported horses in two minutes 28.162 seconds to take the largest portion of the BD3,000 total prize.

A pair of Victorious-owned horses came second and third, respectively, with What A Welcome finishing three lengths behind for Fawzi Nass and Husain Makki, and Macaque further back for Hesham Al Haddad and Marcialis Jaures.

In the fifth race of the day for the HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup, Happy Craf was the winner for M and E Racing, Allan Smith and Edinson Rodriguez.

The four-year-old completed the eight-furlong race for imported horses in 1:34.967 to take the lion’s share of the BD2,000 prize. Wild Hero finished second just a neck behind for HBR Racing, Hareb Almalki and Ebrahim Nader, while Never Before came third for HH Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Ryan Curatolo.

Ocean Star was the winner of the HH Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup in the fifth race of the day. Competing over seven furlongs for the BD2,000 total prize, Ocean Star finished ahead of the 11-horse field to win in 1:24.457 for Al Afoo Racing Stable, Mohammed Saeed and Daisuke Fukumoto.

A neck behind was Ecosystem for MKAR Racing, Haider Ebrahim and Abdulla Faisal, while Night Warrior was third for Al Aneed Racing Syndicate, Baasem Mahdi and Marcialis Jaures. Wewonitsixtimes won the HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa Cup, held over a seven-furlong distance with a BD2,000 prize.

The M and E Racing winner took first place in 1:25.155 for Allan Smith while saddled by Hasan Al Mawali. Katie Elder was the runner-up for Nasser Ali Jasim Abdulla, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Mohammed Redha, while Magsood came third for Zahra Ebrahim Abdulla, Samir Dawood and Ali Samir.

Meanwhile, in the seventh and penultimate race yesterday for the Zaid bin Theeb Kobra Group Industry and Trade Cup, Four Wheel Drive took first place for Gunners Racing, Allan Smith and Abdulla Faisal.

The fiveyear-old winner completed the five-furlong race in 57.892s to take the biggest share of the BD3,000 prize. Don Armado followed for Al Afoo Racing Stable, Mohammed Saeed and Daisuke Fukuoto, while Likethelook came third for Ramadhan Stable, Jaber Ramadhan and Husain Makki. Al Hamdany 1746 won the Al Roudha Cup.

The WAHO race was held over seven furlongs with a BD1,500 prize, and the victor triumphed in 1:37.168 for Al Riffa, Yousif Alboainain and Ebrahim Nader.

Al Saqlawy 1757 and Kuheilan Umm Zorayr 1766 were second and third, respectively. In the day’s first race for the Owners Cup, Al Tariq won the 10-furlong race with the BD2,600 total prize competing for KHK Racing, Hesham Al Haddad and Husain Makki.

Al Tariq won in 51.364s. The fourth race of the day, held over eight furlongs with a BD2,000 prize, Musique De La Nuit came first for Victorious, Allan Smith and Edinson Rodriguez in 1:38.435.

Al Aafoor and Manama Girl followed.
