Bahrain head coach Helio Sousa yesterday made a change to the 23-man national team line-up that is currently in a training camp and will play two international friendly matches at the end of the month. The Portuguese tactician has replaced Manama Club player Mohammed Adel with Al Khalidiya Club standout Sayed Qasem Alawi.

The adjustment was done due to an injury Adel has suffered.

The rest of the squad remains unchanged as Bahrain continue to prepare for their last three joint-qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023. Those qualifiers are scheduled to be held in the Kingdom beginning the first week of June, and the camp is the team’s final lead-up to that crucial period.

Part of the Bahrainis’ training will be held in Kiev, starting Thursday. There they will take on their Ukrainian counterparts at the Metalist Oblast Sports Complex stadium in the city of Kharkiv on May 23 in their first of two friendlies.

They will then go against Malaysia at home on May 28. Bahrain is in Group C of joint-qualifying, along with Iraq, Iran, Cambodia and Hong Kong. They are set to go against Cambodia on June 3, Iran on June 7 and then Hong Kong on June 15, all in the Kingdom. The Bahrainis are currently second in the group
