Bahrain’s youth national basketball team left yesterday for Istanbul, where they will hold an overseas training camp in preparation for the FIBA Asia U18 Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) Qualifier, which is scheduled to be held in the Kingdom next month.

The qualification competition will take place between August 7 and 15 and it will determine the teams that will participate in the next FIBA U18 Asian Championship. The Bahraini youngsters are coached by veteran tactician Aqeel Milad.

The roster features 14 players, including Hassan Ali, Mohammed Jalal, Hussain Abdulaziz, Mohammed Khalil, Abdulla Nader, Mousa Fouad, Ali Hussain, Hamad Faisal, Hassan Faisal, Mousa Mohammed, Mishal Mohammed, Ali Younis, Abdulla Isa and Mohammed Hani.

During their camp, the team will play a number of friendly games while also conducting intensive daily training sessions, with the hopes of building their chemistry and reaching a high level of readiness for the tournament.

Bahrain also hosted the previous GBA qualifier in 2019 for the under-18 continental competition, which was supposed to be held last year. Bahrain and Saudi Arabia qualified, but the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
