Bahrain’s youth national football team are continuing their local training programme in preparation for future competitions. The nationals were originally scheduled to play in the 2021 Arab Cup U-17 from July 29 to August 15 in Morocco, but the Union of Arab Football Associations postponed the tournament due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Bahrain Football Association (BFA) official said that a new date would be announced soon, and the tournament could go ahead in the near future.

The Bahraini youngsters are training under the supervision of youth national team head coach Ahmed Al Saad. BFA vice-president for technical affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Salman Al Khalifa visited the team’s training the other day at the BFA pitches in Riffa.

The Bahrainis are one of 16 teams set to compete in the 2021 Arab Cup U-17 once the event takes place. They have been drawn in Group D alongside Egypt, Somalia and Lebanon.

Group A features hosts Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Group B includes Algeria, the UAE, Libya and Djibouti. Group C comprises Tunisia, Mauritania, Yemen and defending champions Iraq.

The top two teams from each group move on to the knockout quarter-finals. This edition of the Arab Cup U-17 will be the fourth. It will be the first time Bahrain is participating
