Bahrain’s Maryam Hassani was classified as an impressive 24th at the end of Women’s Skeet Qualification yesterday at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Maryam ended her two-day campaign with a total of 112 points, tied with two other competitors and 12 markers behind the leading 124 points of China’s Meng Wei, which equalled the Qualification World Record while being a new Qualification Olympic Record.
Meng went on to win the Women’s Skeet bronze medal yesterday after the final, as Amber English from the US took gold and Diana Bacosi of Italy took silver. Despite her strong performance, Maryam was unable to move through to the medal round, which featured just six-shooters.
The 27-year-old’s five-round score in qualifying was 22, 22, 22, 23 and 23. There were a total of 29 participants entered in the Women’s Skeet contest in Tokyo.
Maryam was making her Olympics debut, which adds to her vast experience competing at the highest levels of global shooting, including in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup and the ISSF World Championships, among others.
The 27-year-old is a right-hander and her right eye is her master eye. Maryam’s participation marked the fifth straight Olympics in which Bahrain has taken part in the shooting.
