Today, three Bahrainis are in action at the Tokyo Olympics. The pair of Eunice Chebichii Chumba and Tejitu Daba will compete in the Women’s Marathon, which started at midnight and continued until the early hours of today morning, Bahrain time.

Then, later in the day, Kalkidan Gezahegne will go for gold in the Women’s 10,000m Final, set for 1.45 pm, Bahrain. Today is the penultimate day of the Olympics and Bahrain have just three more chances to go for a medal.

Tomorrow will be the national delegation’s final opportunity, with the trio of Elhassan Elabbasi, Alemu Bekele and Shumi Dechasa all running in the Men’s Marathon.

Bahrain has yet to add to its three Olympic medals won in the past, which include two gold and one silver, all in athletics. The gold medals were captured by Maryam Yusuf Jamal at the London Olympics in 2012 for the Women’s 1,5000m and Ruth Jebet at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 for the Women’s 3,000m Steeplechase. Eunice Kirwa also medalled in Rio, claiming the Women’s Marathon silver.
