Bahrain wrap up historic campaign in Tokyo 2020

Bahrain wrapped up their historic campaign at the Tokyo Olympic Games yesterday and was ranked tied-77th overall on the final medal table.
Having won one silver medal through Kalkidan Gezahegne in the Women’s 10,000 metres, the Bahrainis were tied on one silver won with Saudi Arabia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Namibia and Turkmenistan.
The Kingdom’s delegation took part in the closing ceremony yesterday at Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium. National handball team goalkeeper Hussain Mahfoodh had the honour of carrying the Bahrain flag in the parade of nations.
Also at the closing were fellow-handball international Mohamed Mohamed and a number of delegation members, while watching from the stands were Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) vice-president and the Kingdom’s delegation head at the Games His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, BOC secretary-general and delegation deputy head Mohammed Al Nusuf, and other officials.
Meanwhile, the BOC reported yesterday that no cases of COVID-19 were reported amongst the Bahrain delegation throughout the Olympics. The BOC said that this is an extension of their success in the playing field as the pandemic posed a great challenge to the national team.
The BOC praised medical coordinator Dr Khalid Al Shaikh and the members of the delegation for completing the various procedures and requirements of participation.
