Bahrain swimmers win three medals in GCC championships

Bahrain bagged three medals yesterday at the 28th GCC Aquatics Championships. The competition is being held in Doha with events in three sports, including swimming, diving and water polo. It will continue until Sunday. The Bahrainis are taking part in the three age categories in swimming, including the seniors (aged 18 and above), the youth (15 to 17) and the boys (13 and 14).

Bahrain’s medals were won by Faris Abdulrahman, Ali Alawi and the team of Ali, Ahmed Abdulnabi, Saud Salah and Ahmed Alalawi in their respective age classes.

Faris won a silver medal in the 50 metres Freestyle with a time of 26.66 seconds. Ali won a bronze in the same event of his age group, finishing in 25.94 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Bahraini quartet claimed the bronze medals for the 4x200m Freestyle with a combined finishing time of eight minutes 28.44 seconds. Ali swam 2:01.61, Saud had a mark of 2:05.45, Ahmed Abdulnabi went 2:10.17, while Ahmed Alalawi swam 2:10.80. Action is scheduled to resume today.

The national team’s delegation at the Qatari capital is being led by Bahrain Swimming Association board member Wissam Al Tayeb. Bahrain is looking to emulate their success at the previous GCC championship, where they won 36 medals and achieved new records.
