Hidd completed the quarter-final line-up for His Majesty the King’s Cup football tournament last night following a 2-1 victor over Sitra.
On target for Hidd in the match were Ahmed Merza and Khalid Jamal Abdulrahman, while Seydina Laye Dabo scored for Sitra. Hidd marched through to the last eight, joining Muharraq, Al Khaldiya, East Riffa, Manama, Al Najma, Al Ahli and holders Riffa.
Yesterday, Merza opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a header from close following a cross supplied by Osama Mahmoud Omari. Merza then supplied the assist for Hidd’s second goal, perfectly placing his pass in the 43rd minute to a charging Abdulrahman on a quick counterattack.
Abdulrahman was one-on-one with Sitra goalkeeper Isa Ali Abdulla, and he slotted home into the bottom-right corner of the net. Sitra were able to get a consolation in the 53rd minute through Dabo, who fired in a fine solo effort from inside the box. In the quarter-finals, Hidd face off with Khaldiya, Najma play Ahli, East Riffa take on Manama and Muharraq face off with Riffa in a thrilling clash.
