Bahrain lost to Canada 0-3 (22-25, 21-25, 17-25) yesterday in their opening game of Pool H in the FIVB Volleyball U21 Men’s World Championship.

The game was the first for the Bahrainis in the second stage of the competition, in which they are now playing in the ninth-to16th classification bracket.

Bahrain outside hitter Sayed Amin Ebrahim commented after the match:

“We lost focus in the match. We failed to play our system. We had a strategy for this game, but we didn’t manage to play as we wanted and we lost.”

The Bahrainis now have one more game to play against Cuba today at 4 pm, Bahrain time. They lost to their Cuban counterparts in their previous meeting held as part of the tournament’s preliminary round. The nationals are already assured of at least one victory in this phase.

It is against no-show Cameroon, who they were supposed to meet tomorrow on the last day of this stage. In Bahrain’s loss against Canada, Ebrahim finished as their top scorer with 12 points, including eight on the attack.

Abdulla Ebrahim chipped in with 11, 10 on the attack, and Ismaeel Almansoori had five, four on spikes. Ahmed Mohammed contributed four points, Hasan Alaiwi three, Mujtaba Alshakhoori had two and both Hussain Ahmed and Sayed Hashem Ali scored one point apiece.

Following this current phase, the final classification matches will ensue.
