Local horseracing season set for off

The 2021/2022 national horseracing season kicks off today at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Zallaq.
Eight races are on the cards with seven cups in honour of the Late His Highness Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa. In the eighth and final race, a huge field of 20 locally bred horses are entered.
They will be vying for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup on opening day, carrying a BD5,000 prize.
The event will be over eight furlongs with horses aged three years old and upwards.
In the seventh race, for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses, another BD5,000 prize will be up for grabs.
It too will be over eight furlongs for horses aged three and above, and seven entrants are registered.
The other events for a Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup are race six (imported horses, 1,200m straight, BD2,000 prize), race five (imported, 1,400m, BD2,000), race three (local, 1,800m, BD2,000), race two (local, 1,000m, BD2,000) and race one (WAHO, 1,000m, BD2,000).
Race four will be for imported horses, contested over 10 furlongs with a BD2,000 prize.
Today’s action will get underway at 1.40pm and continue until around 4.45pm.
