Bahrain bowlers excel in world championships

Bahrain’s national bowling team competing in the IBF Super World Championships 2021 have so far excelled after the first two days of the competition being held in Dubai.
The Bahraini 1 doubles teams in the men’s and women’s categories both made it through the second round of their respective events, while top talent Yusuf Falah is also in a prime position to advance past the qualifying stage in the Men’s Singles category.
In Men’s Doubles Qualification, the Bahrain 1 tandem of Falah and Ahmed Al Goud finished 21st out of 64 pairings to secure their place amongst the 32 duos who marched through to the ensuing stage.
They played a 2,189 total over 10 games under the Baker format for a 218.90 average. The Bahrain 2 men’s tandem of Ahmed Alkhaja and Ali Almass was ranked 44th with a 2,026 total and a 202.6 average. Meanwhile, the Bahrain 1 women’s pairing of Nadia Aqeel and Noora Sultan advanced to the next round of their doubles event.
They placed 19th amongst the 32 qualified pairs with a 2,029 total and a 202.90 average after 10 games. Bahrain’s other women’s tandem of Layla Aljanahi and Reem Sultan narrowly missed out on a ticket to the second round, finishing in 38th position with a 1,787 total and 178.70 average.
Meanwhile, Falah was ranked an impressive fifth from 132 bowlers after the first five games in Men’s Singles Qualification. Falah played a 1,207 total for a 241.40 average.
He hopes to finish amongst the top 32 bowlers to make it through to round two following the completion of all 10 games in this stage. His teammates were ranked further behind, with Alkhaja in 68th (1,042, 208.40), Almass in 70th (1,041, 208.20) and Al Goud in 74th (1,030, 206.00).
In Women’s Singles Qualification, Nadia was the topranked Bahraini after the first five games in 53rd with a 976 total for a 195.20 average. Noora was just two places behind in 55th with a 965 total and 193.00 average, while Layla was 71st (894, 178.80) and Reem 91st (780, 156.00).
In the second round of each competition category, the 32 qualifiers will be split into four groups of eight. Within each group, the Singles/Doubles participants will bowl seven games round-robin and will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. The winner and second place in each group will advance to the quarter-finals. If there is a tie to advance in a group, one game matches will be played until the tie is broken.
