Karich, Zahra triumph in charity race

Moussa Karich and Zahra Mohammed won the men’s and women’s races, respectively, yesterday in the Khalid bin Hamad fourth Charity Race Disability, organised by the Bahrain Road Runners (BRR). Karich clinched first place amongst the men after completing the four-kilometre distance in 11 minutes 57 seconds.

He finished well ahead of runner-up Yassine Mhimda who clocked a mark of 12:17, while Mubarak Alsulaiti came third in 12:26. Salman Abdulsalam Alaadar, Abdellatif Ait Hsine, Eric Watson, Mohammed Alqais and Ahmed Gouda completed the men’s top eight. Meanwhile, Zahra finished first in the women’s category with a time of 16:57. She enjoyed a big gap ahead of the rest of the field, which saw Araz Aramali in second in 20:58. Anna Emelina came a close third in 21:01.

Sumaya Hussain, Fatema Muad, Nadine Abou Fakhr, Fatima Mohammed and Noor Al Hashel rounded off the first eight. The BRR event featured hundreds of participants in various categories. Aside from the adults, there were also races for children in different age classes.

There were also race categories for participants in wheelchairs, special needs kids and Special Olympics. Following all the action, the winners in each class were presented their respective awards in a prize presentation ceremony attended by General Sports Authority CEO Dr Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar.
