Mars Landing stormed to back-to-back victories in the Bahrain Turf Series yesterday after winning the £50,000 Al Dana Cup at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.

The nine-furlong race was the third in the prestigious series, which consists of 10 £50,000 handicaps. Contenders collect points throughout the series, which continues until February 18, for a chance to win extra prize money upon its completion.

Having previously claimed the series’ second event last month, Mars Landing lived up to its billing as a favourite and the locally trained four-year-old made it two wins in a row in style. Mars Landing clinched first place for owners Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Hesham Al Haddad, while saddled by Irish jockey Neil Callan.

Finishing in second place was Magical Wish for MKAR Racing, JS Moore and John Egan, while in third was another Al Mohamediya Racing horse in Zagato, also trained by Hesham Al Haddad and ridden by Husain Makki.

In attendance yesterday to see Mars Landing triumph was REHC High Committee chairman His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa among other high-ranking officials. The first two Bahrain Turf Series events were already held last month, with Happy Craf and Mars Landing making history as the series’ first-ever race winners.
