Deep Intrigue lifts Al Wasmiya Cup

Deep Intrigue lifted the Al Wasmiya Cup yesterday to headline an exciting day of action at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir. David Egan, the winning jockey from last year’s Bahrain International Trophy, this time saddled his Hesham Al Haddad-trained contender to first place for owner Hasan Mefareh Alajmi.

The six-furlong event was the fourth race in the prestigious Bahrain Turf Series, and it carried a £50,000 prize purse. Deep Intrigue was originally a reserve for the event’s 18-strong field of imported entries, and the victory marked a brilliant first run in Bahrain for the winning horse.

Finishing in second place was Roman River for M and E Racing and AM Smith while jockeyed by Julio Garcia. Dark Shadow came third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Osama Hashim and George Wood. The Bahrain Turf Series resumes next week with the fifth of 10 races.

David Egan was also the winner in yesterday’s second race, riding Breathtaking to claim the HH Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohamad bin Salman Al Khalifa Cup. Egan was competing for owner Abdulla Fawzi Nass and trainer Hesham Al Haddad in the six-furlong race with a BD2,000 prize.

Ramani came second for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Saeed and Lee Newman. Meanwhile, Charles Bishop steered three horses to victory yesterday for an impressive hat-trick. Bishop saddled First Edi[1]tion to the win in race seven for owners Al Mooriyat Racing and trainer AM Smith.

Bishop also won race five riding Ace Rothstein for Kulbir Sohi and Michael Bell, and claimed race four on Alejandro for Al Adiyat Racing and AM Smith. In the seventh race, held over a five-furlong straight with a BD5,000 prize purse, First Edition lifted the HH Shaikh Mohamed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup in taking the win.

In second place was Riffaa Wonder for Redha Munfaredi Racing, Hussain Aldailami and David Egan, while London Look clinched third place for Karrar Abdulhadi Al Baqqali, Taleb Ali and Cameron Noble.

In race five over nine furlongs with a BD8,000 prize, Ace Rothstein claimed the Al Adiyat Racing Cup. Medal Winner was second for Al Mohamediya Racing, Hussain Aldailami and Neil Callan, while Macaque came third for Victorious, Hesham Al Haddad and Husain Makki.

The fourth race saw Alejandro take the HH Shaikh Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cup. Campolina was the runner-up in the nine-furlong event with a BD4,000 prize for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Hesham Al Haddad and Rosie Jessop, while in third was Shawwash representing Al Nuwayef Racing, AM Smith and Edinson Rodriguez.

The eighth and final race of the day was won by Tamerlane for Al Mohamediya Racing, Hussain Aldailami and Neil Callan. They lifted the HH Shaikh Salman bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cup. Breath of Air came second for Al Adiyat Racing AM Smith and Charles Bishop, while Baronial Pride was third for Sister’s Syndicate, Marvin Grandin and Abduljaleel Al Mallah.

In the day’s third race, Manama Girl claimed first place to lift the HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cup. Saddled by Martin Seidl, Manama Girl won for Ramadhan Stable and trainer Jaber Ramadhan.

Mugheerah was the runner-up for Al Nayefaat, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Cameron Noble, while Asalah was third for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Hesham Al Haddad and David Egan. In the first race, Obeyan 1777 triumphed for KHK Racing Hesham Al Haddad and Rosie Jessop to claim the HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup.

Kuheilan Afas 1695 was second for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Abdulla Faisal, while Kuheilan Afas 1708 claimed third for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Anas Al Siyabi. Another eight races are scheduled to be held today at REHC.
