Bahrain is set to host the 24th edition of the Arab Cross Country Championship, the Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) has announced. The event is scheduled to take place on February 22 at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.

It is being held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) president His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority president and Bahrain Olympic Committee chief His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The meet is being organised by the BAA in association with the Arab Athletics Federation. BAA president Mohammed Jalal is the organising committee head, while Mohammed Abdulaziz is the competition director.

Around 150 athletes representing 15 Arab nations will be competing in the event. They will be battling it out in four different categories, including the youth, juniors, senior men and senior women.

A Press conference with some of the participants is scheduled to take place on February 20. Jalal stressed that Bahrain’s hosting of the competition is a translation of the aspirations of the sports leadership, headed by His Majesty the King’s humanitarian works and youth affairs representative and HH Shaikh Khalid.
