Fareed scores high series to open HH Shaikh Khalid bowling

Ahmed Fareed played the overall high series on the opening night of qualification in the His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa First Bowling Championship, currently being played at Funland Centre. Fareed registered a three-game total of 691 pins to take home the first daily prize.
He added another series of 658 pins to bring his total to 1,349 for a 149.89 pins-per-game average, which put him in first place on the men’s division standings. Bowlers in this qualifying stage must play at least three trials to be eligible to advance to the next round. Each participant’s top three series will be counted, and the top 24 competitors at the end advance to the men’s second round.
Ranked behind Fareed at the end of day one was Jan Meden from the Philippines, who took second place with a total of 1,297, from series of 656 and 641 pins, for a 144.11 average. Bahrain’s international bowling star Yousef Falah was third with a pair of 612 and 594 scores for a 1,206 total and 134.00 average.
Essa Taqi followed in fourth with 639 and 508 series for a 1,147 total and 127.44 average, while Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines ranked fifth after trials of 609 and 497, for a 1,106 total and 122.89 average. Abdulla Abdulkarim, Mohammed Al Mannai and Dante Tisdom from the U.S. rounded off the top eight amongst the men. In the women’s division, Nahla Al Adaas from Saudi Arabia moved to first place at the end of day one with series counts of 514 and 479 for a 993 total and 110.33 average.
Fellow-Saudi bowler Noor Saleh followed in second with an 811 total from the 407 and 404 series, making for a 90.11 average. In the seniors division, Sami Salloom was in first place with a 560 total and 62.22 average. Yousif Al Ali was second with a 548 total and 60.89 average, while Mohammed Daraj was third with marks of 539 and 59.89.
Mohammed Al Shawoosh and Tisdom ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the seniors category. At the end of qualifying, the top 24 men march through to their next stage, while the top eight from the women’s and seniors divisions will qualify.
The tournament is scheduled to be held until February 26, and it features prize money worth more than BD19,000, to be allocated to the top finishers in the men’s, women’s and seniors categories.
