Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) Motorsport Team will be looking for a podium finish at the Bahrain 24-Hour Karting Championship 2022 this weekend, to be held at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir.

The endurance karting season’s headline event will see two teams of fearless BAS staffers taking part.

They are all geared up to face the mammoth challenge head-on.

The race flags off today at 2 pm and the chequered flag will be waved at the same time tomorrow.

BAS CEO Eng Mohamed Khalil Ahmed commented: “This whole achievement by our BAS staff is fantastic and I am overwhelmed with their commitment and how well they have done during the training sessions held.

“I hope they can continue with their outstanding performance and show their abilities in the race on Friday and Saturday.

I wish them all well and to be safe during this endurance race.”

BAS Motorsport Team Manager Tony Smith added: “From start to finish during training, the BAS team members continued to develop and excel themselves into the sport and have achieved so much.

“I am extremely proud of them all and look for their dedication to drive them to the podium on Saturday and finish on a real high and make Bahrain Airport Services shine across the Kingdom.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our CEO, Eng Mohamed Khalil Ahmed, for supporting our BAS employees during these difficult times and having faith in our staff to raise the BAS portfolio across Bahrain.”

The BAS Motorsport Team will be fielding two squads in the meeting, including the BAS-A Racing Team and the BAS-Wonder Women Racing Team.

The BAS-A Racing team comprises racers Mohamed Jaafar, Ahmed Kooheji, Mahmood Saati, Benjamin John, Yousif Alaskeri, Ammar Ali Al Ghawas, Suful Islam, Salman Hassan Ali Isa and Hussain Habib.

The all-ladies BAS-Wonder Women Racing Team is composed of Jeiel Macaraan, Alya Adel, Fatima Mohamed Zainudeen, Sujusha Bakaal, and Christine Anieliesa.

The BAS Motorsport Team members have been training hard over the past few weeks for the event, which is set to pose a unique challenge and test each participant’s poise and stamina, apart from their karting skills.

BAS has taken advantage of the skills and knowledge of BAS Motorsport Team Ambassador and top local talent Lewis Smith, whose dedication and commitment helped train and develop all of the participating BAS staff to ensure they are fully ready for this weekend’s race.

Smith is one of the most talented karters in Bahrain.

He had recently excelled in the Rotax MAX Grand finals in December, which featured more than 400 competitors from 75 countries, and is currently ranked 23rd in the world in the Rotax Senior MAX category.

Heading into the 24-hour showdown, the BAS-A Racing Team will be vying for glory in the race’s Pro category, while the BAS-Wonder Women Racing Team will be looking for a shot at claiming the coveted title in the race’s Corporate class.

The BAS karters will be hitting the tarmac against their competitors in identical 390cc Honda-powered Sodikart RT8s.

All the action will be held along BIKC’s 1.414-kilometre Commission International Karting (CIK)-FIA track.
