Al Mass claims daily prize in HH Shaikh Khalid bowling

Ali Al Mass won the daily high series prize on the second day of qualifying in the His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa First Bowling Championship, currently being played at Funland Centre’s bowling lanes.

The Bahrain national team bowler posted a score of 695 pinfalls in his opening trial of the tournament.

That helped him move to 11th position on the men’s standings after two days of action so far.

Still in the lead was Ahmed Fareed, who raised his pins-per game count to 221.56 after playing a 645 series.

That brought his total to 1,994.

Fareed’s other two trials were 691 and 658, which he played on the first day of the competition.

Abdulla Abdulkarim improved to second with a 200.78 average and a 1,807 total from a series of 626, 615 and 566, while Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines went up to third with a 197.89 average after playing an impressive 675 trial on day two to add to his other scores of 609 and 497.

Dante Tisdom from the US was fourth with a 175.33 average and 1,578 total while rounding off the men’s top eight were Jan Meden (144.11 average, 1,297 total) from the Philippines, Yousif Falah (134.00, 1,206), Isa Khalid (132.00, 1,188) and Essa Taqi (127.44, 1,147).

In the women’s division, Saudi bowlers Nahla Al Adaas (110.33, 993) and Noor Saleh (90.11, 811) continued to top their ranking table.

Tisdom, meanwhile, rose to first place in the senior's category with his improved average and total, which included his three best series so far of 557, 531 and 490.

Sami Salloom moved to second amongst the seniors with a 158.44 average and a 1,426 total, while Yousif Al Ali was third on marks of 125.11 and 1,126.

 Mohammed Darraj, Arif Murseel and Hussain Bushihri complete the top six.

Qualifying continues today.

Bowlers in this stage must play at least three trials to be eligible to advance to the next round, with each participant’s top three series being counted.

At the end of qualifying, the top 24 men march through to their next stage, while the top eight from the women’s and seniors divisions will qualify.

The tournament is scheduled to be held until February 26, and it features prize money worth more than BD19,000, to be allocated to the top finishers in the men’s, women’s and seniors categories.
