A 6 pm start, Bahrain time, has been confirmed for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2022, it has been announced. Motorsport’s global governing body the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has released the Start Time Information for the 2022 FIA F1 World Championship.

The Bahrain Grand Prix will be the first of a record 23 rounds in the new F1 season, set to kick off March 18 to 20 at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.

The timings of each of the F1 sessions throughout the race weekend have also been revealed. Practice one on Friday is scheduled for 3 pm to 4 pm, while practice two follows later that evening from 6 pm to 7 pm.

The following day yesterday, practice three will be held from 3 pm to 4 pm, and then the stage will be set for qualifying from 6 pm to 7 pm.

On Sunday, the race will flag off at 6 pm, a little after sunset at 5.48 pm. This year’s Bahrain Grand Prix is set to be a once-in-a-generation occasion, as it ushers in the new era of F1 following the biggest shake-up in rules and regulations in the history of the top flight, to go along with the radical new car design and some new driver pairings.

In another first, all energy used at the F1 event this year will be provided by a newly installed on-site solar farm, meeting the BIC’s needs throughout the race weekend and beyond, whilst also supporting the Kingdom and F1’s net-zero carbon emissions targets. The plans will reduce the venue’s carbon footprint and generate significant savings on overall energy costs.

The Bahrain Grand Prix weekend will have plenty more to look forward to both on and off the track. Aside from F1, racing will be held in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship as support events.

Both F1 feeder series are holding their 2022 season-openers at BIC. In addition to this, the Porsche Sprint Cup Middle East will also take place, holding the fifth and final round of its 2021/2022 campaign.
