Al Ali scores high series in HH Shaikh Khalid bowling

Yousif Al Ali took home the daily high series prize on the fourth day of qualifying in the His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa First Bowling Championship, currently being played at Funland Centre. Al Ali posted the day’s best score of 684 pins. He added to his two other top trials of 578 and 548 pinfalls, bringing his total to 1,810 for a 201.11 average.
That helped him solidify his place in second on the standings of the tournament’s senior division, where he continued to trail just American Dante Tisdom, who leads with a 1,895 total and a 210.56 average.
Behind them on the seniors rankings were Sami Salloom (1,436 total, 159.56 average), Mohammed Shawoosh (1,120, 124.44), Mohammed Darraj (1,090, 121.11), and Arif Murseel (1,083, 120.33). Meanwhile, Emerson Gotenxio from the Philippines became the new leader in the men’s division after playing two impressive series of 683 pins and 681.
His 683 trial was just a pin short of matching Al Ali’s high for the day, and it added to his other 675 scores for a 2,039 total and 226.56 average.
He overtook Ahmed Fareed for the men’s lead. Fareed had been the leader from the start of the competition but lost the top spot despite improving his total to 2,026 and average to 225.11. Zeyad Al Kheliwi from. Saudi Arabia went to third with 1,903 total and a 211.44 average. Tisdom ranked fourth, Essa Taqi (1,893, 201.33) fifth and Abdulla Abdulkarim (1,807, 200.78) sixth.
In the women’s category, things remained unchanged in the top three, led by Reem Sultan with a 1,003 total for a 111.44 average. Nahla Al Adaas (110.33, 993) from Saudi Arabia followed in second, while Noor Saleh (90.11, 811), also from Saudi, was third.
Qualifying continues today. At the end of this stage, the top 24 men march through to their next stage, while the top eight from the women’s and seniors divisions will qualify.
The tournament is scheduled to be held until February 26, and it features prize money worth more than BD19,000, to be allocated to the top finishers in the men’s, women’s and seniors categories.
