Ariette Paul emerged as the winner of the INFONAS Watson Salver competition at Awali Golf Club (AGC). A total of 87 players signed up to battle for eight prizes, plus a medal for the best gross score, in the event, which featured a unique format of play. Paul finished as the only player with four plusses on her scorecard, completing the round with five pars in a row and a gross 83.
She narrowly beat out some stiff competition from several other players, as six others finished with scores of plus three. The best of the plus three scorers was Keith McDonald Lines, who finished as the runner-up.
In third place was Quinten du Preez, who scored four pars and five bogeys on the back nine to also finish with three plusses. Fourth through seventh, respectively, were Sang Oak Nam, Ateeq Yaqoob Mujali, Nasser Yaqoob Saleh and James Williamson, all with plus three.
Rounding off the prize winners in eighth place was James McIlear, who had a score of plus one to just edged out Han John on countback.
Meanwhile, Saleh also took home the prize for the best gross score of 66. The Bahrain international golfer had four easy tap-in pars, and on hole five carded his first birdie after a great approach pitch. He then parred holes six and seven, bogeyed hole eight, but immediately followed that with a birdie on hole nine. Another bogey at 12 triggered birdies on holes 13, 14, 17 and 18, ending with his impressive gross result.
At the end of the play, the winners have presented their respective awards in a ceremony attended by AGC captain Susan Scott and tournament director Nathan Sundaresan.
