Bahrain has been shortlisted as one of three final bidders to host the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2023.
This was confirmed by football’s international governing body FIFA. The other two countries are the UAE and Seychelles.
“As stated in the Bidding Process Overview, FIFA will review and assess the bids,” a FIFA statement said.
“A final decision on the host will be made later this year.”
The Bahrain Football Association originally submitted its bid in early December of last year and is now a finalist. The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is currently being held every two years.
Last year, it took place in August in Moscow, with 16 nations taking part. Bahrain has appeared in the competition twice—first in 2006 and then again in 2009.
The Bahrainis reached the quarter-finals in their debut appearance but then did not make it through in their return to the competition three years later.
