HM the King’s Cup endurance ride gets underway

His Majesty the King’s Cup Endurance Ride Championship got underway yesterday at Bahrain International Endurance Village in Sakhir.

The event, being held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has been organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF), and it continues until tomorrow.

Spanish rider Rocio Esperanza of Victorious team finished in first place in the 120-kilometre international qualifying race after completing the distance in a time of five hours and 46 minutes. Mohammed Abdulhamin Alhashemi, also of Victorious, finished as the runner-up in 5:46:11, while Sarhan Hamid Al Enezi came third in 6:11:22.

Meanwhile, in the 100km local qualifying race, Faisal Humaid Al Enezi was the winner in 4:56:10. Ahmed Yousef Al Dosari came second in 5:01:50, and Abdulaziz Al Mutairi from Kuwait finished third in 5:12:16.

HM the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and BREEF honourary president HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the royal support to equestrian sport in Bahrain.

HH Shaikh Nasser also praised the festival’s sponsors, including Batelco, ALBA, NBB, House ME, Chevron, Sino Contracting, Kuwait Finance House and Ascon for supporting the event. He also praised the efforts of BREEF and its president HH Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa in ensuring the success of the festival. Action continues today.
