Silent Film and Zagato won the final two races in the prestigious Bahrain Turf Series yesterday at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.

Silent Film clinched the Al Sakhir Cup in the turf series’ penultimate event, while Zagato won the Vision 2030 Cup in the finale. The races were part of a thrilling eight-race card in yesterday’s meeting, which was attended by REHC High Committee chairman His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with other high-ranking officials.

A number of international connections for the horses competing in the Turf Series were also on hand. In the Al Sakhir Cup, Silent Film took the victory by a head for owners Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby, while saddled by James Doyle.

The win was the first for Godolphin in their only appearance in the inaugural season of the Bahrain Turf Series. The winner triumphed ahead of Shebil Aljazira of Al Mohamediya Racing, trained by Osama Hashim and ridden by Marcialis Jaures.

King’s Knight came third for Ziad A Galadari, Charles Hills and Saffie Osborne. The Vision 2030 Cup was claimed by Zagato for Al Mohamediya Racing and Hesham Al Haddad, with jockey Neil Callan in the saddle.

The result secured a hat-trick of wins for the Al Mohamediya-Al Haddad-Callan triumvirate, as they had also won with Mars Landing in the Al Muharraq Cup and Al Dana Cup, which were the Turf Series’ second and third races, respectively.

Zymyran came second for Al Hassanain Racing, Ali Jan and Cameron Noble, while Arqoob was third for Little Staughton Farms Ltd, Williams Jarvis and David Egan.
