Prince Elzaam lifts GSA Cup at REHC

Prince Elzaam lifted the General Sports Authority (GSA) Cup in the feature race yesterday at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Present at an action-packed day of eight races were GSA vice-president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar and REHC director Shaikh Salman bin Rashed Al Khalifa, among other officials.
Competing for Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Taleb Ali, Neil Callan saddled Prince Elzaam to first place over eight furlongs for the lion’s share of the BD4,000 prize.
Guistino was the runner-up for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and jockey Edinson Rodriguez; while Gold Spinner came third for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Marvin Grandin. Two other GSA Cups were up for the taking yesterday in the fifth and fourth races.
In race five, held over 14 furlongs with a BD3,000 total prize, King of the Throne was the winner for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Hasan Al Safar. Wild Hero was the runner-up for HBR Racing, Hareb Almalki and Husain Makki, while Hessa came third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Abbas Al Mawali and Jimmy Quinn.
In the fourth race, Ocean Star emerged triumphant to give Al Afoo Racing a double for the day. Ocean Star won over the six-furlong straight to claim the biggest share of the BD4,000 prize for trainer Mohammed Hasan and jockey Marvin Grandin.
Desert Gulf came second for Al Mohamediya Racing and Fawzi Nass, Hesham Al Haddad and Neil Callan, while Swindler was third for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Ebrahim Nader. Meanwhile, two REHC Cups were up for the taking yesterday in the seventh and second races.
Race seven was contested over nine furlongs with a BD2,000 prize purse, and the REHC Cup was clinched by Encourage, competing for owners Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Hesham Al Haddad, while saddled by Neil Callan.
Harbour Spirit was second for Ramadhan Stable, Jaber Ramadhan and Edinson Rodriguez; while Al Fajir Mukbile came third for Raed Ahmed Yousif Alboainain, Yousif Alboainain and Abdulla Faisal. In race two, Torpedo won for HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Ebrahim Nader over six furlongs with a BD2,000 total prize.
Mudallal finished as runner-up for Al Mohamediya Racing, Hesham Al Haddad and Neil Callan, while Khazzama was third representing HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Ebrahim Faisal.
Elsewhere yesterday, race six was won by Munafis for MKAR Racing, Hadier Ebrahim and Ebrahim; race three was claimed by Kailash for Mohammed Yousif Sarhan, Yousif Sarhan and Abdulla Faisal Race one; and Kuheilat’t Al Adiyat 1782 won race one for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Ahmed Maki.
