Bahrain champions Al Ahli open their title bid in the 38th Gulf Clubs Volleyball Championship this evening against Al Qadisiya of Kuwait. The game is scheduled for a 7 pm start at the Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena at Shaikh Isa Sports City in Riffa.

It will be the second match on the first day of play. Action gets underway at 5 pm with defending champions Police Sports Club of Qatar facing Al Kamil and Al Wafi Club of Oman. The draw for the competition was held yesterday.

On the second day of the event on Monday, Bahrain will take on Al Kamil and Al Wafi at 7 pm, to be preceded by Police SC facing Qadisiya. Following a rest day on Tuesday, the preliminary round will wrap up on Wednesday with Ahli taking on Police SC and Al Kamil and Al Wafi facing Qadisiya. The semi-finals will then be held on Thursday, and then following a break on Friday, the bronze and gold medal games will take place on Saturday.

Ahli earned the right to represent the Kingdom in the Gulf championship as the reigning title-holders in the Isa bin Rashid Bahrain First Division Volleyball League. Ahli is looking to clinch their first Gulf title.

They are looking to emulate the success of fellow-Bahraini sides Muharraq, Al Najma, Nasser and Dar Kulaib, who have all already won the Gulf crown in the past.

The last edition of the tournament was held in Kuwait in 2020, which was won by Qatar’s Police SC, while Bahrain’s Dar Kulaib finished as silver-medallists and Kuwait Club was third.
