Bader Abdulla Malabes buried back-to-back three-pointers with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter to shift the game momentum and take the lead for good in Muharraq’s 89-83 victory over Bahrain Club last night in the Top Six division of the 2021/2022 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.

After trailing the majority of the contest and facing a deficit of as many as 11 points, Muharraq clawed their way back and captured the advantage with the first of Malabes’s successive triples.

They were 63-69 behind entering the final canto but used a 12-2 run, capped by the Malabes heroics, to take control. Bahrain Club tried valiantly to recover but Muharraq were now firmly in the driver’s seat and they went ahead 85-77 following a Boris Savovic lay-up off a Malabes assist with just two minutes to play. Bahrain Club got back to within four points but no closer.

They missed three straight free-throws that would have helped them narrow the gap, and Muharraq took advantage. The result earned the victors their second win in only three games played so far in this stage. Bahrain Club were handed their third loss in four outings. American professional Dewayne Jackson top scored for Muharraq with 25 points.

Malabes added 19 including four three-pointers, while Serbian import Boris Savovic chipped in with 17. For Bahrain Club, former NBA champion Dexter Pittman had 33 points and 14 rebounds, while Rwandan professional Kenny Gasana scored 20 and Jawad Abdulla 15.

Action in the Top Six continues on Sunday with Muharraq back on the hardwood taking on Al Hala at 5.45 pm, followed by defending back-to-back champions Al Ahli facing off with Bahrain Club at 7.30pm.
