Funland Centre, Manama - The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament is scheduled to get underway tomorrow with top tenpin bowlers from the Kingdom and overseas set to take part. The event is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa.

Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers in the competition, which is scheduled to continue until April 23. Participants will be divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies. The tournament is set to consist of five rounds.

The opening stage is qualifying, which will be held until April 21. Bowlers from both groups in this first phase will attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered.

Each trial is composed of three games. Bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B at the end of this stage will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

In case of a tie in this round, the high series will be the decider. If the tie still exists, the next high series will decide the winner, and so on until the tie is broken. Bowlers qualified to round two will play five games on different lanes while changing lanes every game.

The top six from each group according to their total pinfalls with handicap will advance to the third round. In the case of a tie in round two, the high game will be the decider. If the tie still exists, the next high game will be considered, and so on until the tie is broken.

In round three, the top two bowlers from Groups A and B in the first round will be joined by the top six from round two to make a 16-bowler field. They will go head-to-head in eight matches, with the opponents based on the ranking from the previous stages.

The winners from each match advance to round four, while losers will be ranked ninth to 16th according to their games in this third stage. In the fourth round, the eight bowlers will go head-to-head once more, with the match-ups based on their ranking from the previous stage.

The four victors will march through to the semi-finals, with the losers to be ranked fifth through eighth, depending on their game scores. The tournament’s fifth and last round will feature both the semi-finals and final.

The semis are once again in matchplay format, with the winners advancing to the title-decider. The final will be played over one game, and the winner will be declared champion. In the case of a tie game in any match in rounds three, four, the semi-finals or final, frames nine and 10 will be played to break the tie.

Bowlers in Group A will have no handicap while Group B bowlers will be given one according to the tournament committee’s judgement.
