Al Ahli were last night crowned champions of the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) Cup. Ahli clinched the title for the second time in the competition’s history after defeating Dar Kulaib 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 18-25, 26-24, 15-12) in the tournament final, which was played at the Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa.

The match ended in controversial fashion due to an issue that stemmed from one of the clubs. Following the contest, Ahli were presented their trophy by BVA president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, in the presence of other officials.

Ali Ebrahim had finished as the game’s top scorer with 24 points for Dar Kulaib. For Ahli, their best scorer was Brazilian professional Luis Fernando Venceslau, who finished with 20 points for his team.

Other top players to contribute for Ahli were Mohammed Anan, Nasser Anan, Ali Al Sairifi, Ali Habib, Mahmood Abdulhussain, Abbas Al Khabbaz and libero Hussain Sultan. Ahli had previously advanced to the final with a win over Al Najma in the semis.

Dar Kulaib, on the other hand, beat Muharraq. Claiming the bronze medals were Muharraq, who overcame Najma in a five-setter earlier this month.
