Taqi, Sameer win daily high series prizes in Funland Ramadan bowling

Essa Taqi and Khalid Sameer won the daily high series prize in their respective groups on the first day of qualifying in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament.

Taqi posted the high series in Group A of 659 pins, while Sameer had the top mark in Group B of 580. Participants are being divided into two groups for the competition.

Group A is for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies. Bowlers from both groups in this first phase will attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered.

Each trial is composed of three games. Taqi’s score was his best of three trials on day one. His other two series were 596 and 558, giving him a total of 1,813 for a 201.4 average atop the Group A standings.

Dante Tisdom from the U.S. is second with a 1,794 total and 199.3 average from his three best series so far of 620, 588 and 586. Fellow-American Patrick Toney ranked third with a 938 total and 104.2 average.

He played just two series on opening night of 488 and 450. Meanwhile, Sameer’s top trial added to his two other series of 572 and 538 for a 1,690 total and 187.8 average. That earned him first place in Group B. Isa Akbari followed in second place with a 1,512 total and 168.0 average, while Abdulla Arif was third with a 985 total and 109.4 average.

Hussain Busheri and Jake Villanueva from the Philippines rounded out the top five. Qualifying continues today at Funland with this first of five stages taking place until April 21. Bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B at the end of this phase will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

The event is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa. Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers.
