Gotencio posts high series in Funland Ramadan bowling

Emerson Gotencio posted the daily high series amongst Group A participants on the second night of qualifying in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament. Khalid Sameer did the same in Group B, which he achieved for the second day in a row.

Bowlers in the tournament are being divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced competitors and Group B for beginners and ladies. Contestants from both groups in this first phase will attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered.

Each trial is composed of three games. Gotencio’s top mark for day two was 725 pins. The Philippine national bowling team member played another trial of 582 to bring his total to 1,307 for a 145.2 average, which was good enough for third place in the Group A standings. Essa Taqi continued to lead with a 1,823 total and 202.6 average, while Dante Tisdom from the U.S. followed with a 1,794 total and 199.3 average.

Ali Al Mass (1,218, 135.3), JM Villanueva (1,125, 125.0) from the Philippines and Isa Khalid (1,033, 114.8) completed the top six. Meanwhile, Sameer’s second day high score was 597. That added to his other two leading trials of 580 and 575 to bring his total to 1,752 for a 194.7 average. Sameer continued to lead Group B while Jake Villanueva from the Philippines followed with a 1,604 total and 178.2 average.

Isa Akbari was third on marks of 1,567 and 174.1, while rounding off Group B’s top six were Abdulla ARif (985, 109.4), Al Lanuza (973, 108.1) from the Philippines and Ahmed Isa (945, 105.0). Qualifying continues today at Funland with this first of five stages taking place until April 21.

Bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B at the end of this phase will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa. Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers.
