Sultan Almasri from Saudi Arabia and Euly Salcedo from the Philippines registered the daily high series on the fourth day of the qualifying round in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, being played at the Funland Centre’s lanes.

Almasri was the top scorer in Group A with a 716 trial, while Salcedo led all scorers in Group B on the day with an impressive 652 series. Bowlers in the tournament are being divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced competitors and Group B for beginners and ladies. Contestants from both groups in this first phase attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered.

Each trial is composed of three games. Almasri’s score was his best of the competition thus far and it helped raise his total to 1,948 pins for a 216.4 average. His two other top series were 637 and 595. Almasri rose to third place on the Group A standings behind leaders Abdulla Abdulkarim and Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines.

Abdulkarim took over in first place after improving his total to 2,055 for a 228.3 average from his three best trials of 697, 693 and 665. He leapfrogged Gotencio, who had marks of 2,035 and 226.1. Behind Almasri in fourth was Dante Tisdom from the U.S. with a 1,889 total and 209.9 average, and Essa Taqi was fifth with a 1,874 total and 208.2 average.

Completing the top eight in Group A were JM Villanueva (1,737, 193.0) from the Philippines in sixth, Isa Khalid (1,692, 188.0) in seventh and Ahmed Fareed (1,254, 139.3) in eighth place. Meanwhile, Salcedo’s best on day four added to his other trials of 577 and 554 for a 1,783 total and 198.1 average. That was good enough for him to climb to second place on the Group B standings.

Khalid Sameer continued to keep the lead with a 1,809 total and 201.0 average. Abdulla Arif went to third with marks of 1,700 and 188.9, while Jake Villanueva from the Philippines was fourth on a 1,657 total and 184.1 average.

Qualifying continues today (Editor’s note: Thursday, March 31) at Funland with this first of the tournament’s five stages continuing until April 21. Bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B at the end of this phase will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa. Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers.
