Byline wins feature at REHC season-closer

Byline lifted the HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup yesterday in the season-ending meeting at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir. Byline triumphed in the eighth and final race of the day for owners Al Adiyat Racing and trainer AM Smith while saddled by jockey Kieran Shoemark.

The event was an eight-furlong challenge carrying a total prize of BD12,000. Byline won by a half’s length ahead of runner-up Maystar who was competing for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Marvin Grandin, while in third came Shebil Aljazira for Al Mohamediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Neil Callan.

Meanwhile, Encourage triumphed in the seventh race to claim the Bahrain Gold Cup, sponsored by stc. The Al Mohamediya Racing contender won over 10 furlongs to come away with the lion’s share of the BD10,000 prize for trainer Hesham Al Haddad while ridden by Neil Callan. Tawaareq was the runner-up for Victorious, Hesham Al Haddad and Cameron Noble, while What A Welcome was third for Ahmed Al Isa, Hesham Al Haddad and Eoin Walsh.

The Owners Cup in the sixth race, held over 10 furlongs with a BD8,000 prize, was claimed by Epic for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Hesham Al Haddad and Husain Makki. Breathtaking came second also for Abdulla Fawzi Nass and Hesham Al Haddad, saddled by Marcialis Jaures. Immortal was third for MKAR Racing, Haider Ebrahim and Kieran Shoemark.

The two stc Cups were won on the fifth and third races of the day. Ocean Star took race five for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Marvin Grandin over a five-furlong straight, offering a BD6,000 prize. Swindler was second for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Ahmed Maki, while Dark Shadow came third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Neil Callan.

The stc Cup in race three was claimed by Manshood for MKAR Racing, Haider Ebrahim and Kieran Shoemark. The event was contested over eight furlongs with a BD4,000 prize, and Manshood finished ahead of Sabha for HH Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Eoin Walsh and Midhaal for Al Nuwayef Racing, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Marvin Grandin.

Race four yesterday was for the REHC Cup, contested over nine furlongs with a BD3,000 prize. Paxos triumphed for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Marvin Grandin, while second was Al Mukhtar Star for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Daisuke Fukumoto and Modmin in third for HBR Racing, Hareb Almalki and Neil Callan.

The second race of the day was for the HH Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup, won by Al Aafoor over seven furlongs to take the biggest portion of the BD3,000 prize.

Al Aafoor triumphed for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Marvin Grandin. Wahaaj and Shawwash, both owned by Al Nuwayef Racing and trained by AM Smith, were second and third. Wahaaj was saddled by Edinson Rodriguez and Shawwash by Julio Garcia.

Completing the day’s winners was Kuheilan Afas 1695, who claimed the Al Roudha Cup in the first race for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Marvin Grandin. The event was over nine furlongs with a BD1,500 prize, and in second was Kuheilan Afas 1708 for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Hasan Al Saffar. Kuheila’t Al Adiyat 1782 came third for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Ahmed Maki.
