Bahrain are set to compete in the qualifying competition for the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup starting tomorrow with a 14-player squad.
The nationals, coached by Brazilian Lino Gomes, are now in the UAE for the qualification event, which gets underway today in Fujairah with the first matches.
The Bahrainis are only in action tomorrow in Group B, when they face off with hosts UAE. They then take on Iraq on Thursday in their last game. Bahrain’s roster in the qualifiers includes Sayed Fadhel Radhi, Sayed Mohamed Hameed, Yousef Janahi, Ahmed Abdulnabi, Ahmed Antar, Ali Al Alwani, Amar Mayhad, Falah Abbas, Jassam Saleh Anan, Mohammed Abdulla, Mohammed Al Sindi, Saleh Mohammed, Salman Al Mulla and Hassan Marzouk.
The nationals are among seven teams vying for five spots allocated for West Asia in the continental tournament. Teams in Group A are also looking to claim one of those berths, and they are Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Oman.
After a single round-robin in each division, the top two teams book their tickets to this year’s AFC Futsal Asian Cup. The third-ranked squads will play in a play-off for the fifth and final spot. The Bahrainis have been training twice daily since their arrival in Fujairah last week.
