Abdulla Abdulkarim and Khalid Sameer posted the top scores on day 18 of qualifying in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, currently being played at Funland Centre’s lanes. Abdulkarim registered the high series of 725 pins amongst the competition’s Group A participants, while Sameer enjoyed a trial of 710 pins to lead all bowlers in Group B. Competitors in the tournament are being divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies.

Contestants from both groups in this first phase attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered. Each trial is composed of three games. Qualifying action continues today and goes on until April 21. It is the first of the championship’s five stages.

Despite being the day’s high series, Abdulkarim’s 725 score was not amongst his top three of the tournament thus far, and therefore it did not count towards his standing in Group A. The local talent remained on a 2,265 total for a 251.7 average in second place on the rankings, narrowly behind leader Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines who boasts a 2,283 total and a 253.7 average.

Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi from Saudi Arabia stayed in third place with a 2,207 total and 245.2 average, while Ahmed Al Khaja was fourth on marks of 2,132 and 236.9. Bowler sranked fourth through eighth, respectively, were Ahmed Al Goud (2,129, 236.6), Ahmed Fareed (2,119, 235.4), Ali Al Mass (2,118, 235.3) and Essa Taqi (2,099, 233.2).

Meanwhile, Sameer’s 710 outing was his best of the competition to date, and it added to his two other leading scores of 629 and 597. Sameer improved his total to 1,936 for a 215.1 average, as he climbed up to third place on the Group B rankings. Still occupying the top two positions were Euly Salcedo from the Philippines with a 2,005 total and 222.8 average, as well as Ahmed Al Ansari with a 1,964 total and a 218.2 average.

Overtaken by Sameer on the table and going down to fourth was Filipino bowler Ronald Seralvo (1,893, 210.3), while Isa Akbari (1,871, 207.9) was fifth and Dexter De Asis (1,846, 205.1), also from the Philippines, sixth. The top eight was rounded off by Sami Saloom (1,838, 204.2) and Waleed Daraj (1,799, 199.9). At the end of the qualifying round, bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa. Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers.
