Dexter De Asis from the Philippines posted an impressive 723 trial to lead all scorers on the 20th day of qualifying in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, currently being played at Funland Centre’s lanes. De Asis scored the high series for the best overall for the day as well as in Group B, while Abdulla Abdulkarim topped all bowlers in Group A with a 687 series.

Competitors in the tournament are being divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies. Contestants from both groups in this first phase attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered. Each trial is composed of three games.

Qualifying action continues today as action in this stage of the championship is in its final week. De Asis’s 723 score was his number one trial of the tournament to date. His two other best series were 622 and 619, bringing his total to 1,964 for a 218.20 average. That helped him go up to second place on the Group B standings.

Although he is tied with Ahmed Al Ansari on their scores, De Asis took the higher position with the better top series, as Al Ansari’s best so far is 717. Euly Salcedo, also from the Philippines, remained in first place in Group B with a 2,005 total and 222.80 average. Khalid Sameer (1,936, 215.10) was fourth and Sami Saloom (1,925, 213.90) fifth, while completing the top eight were Ronald Seralvo (1,893, 210.30), Isa Akbari (1,871, 207.90) and Ziyad Al Awadhi (1,834, 203.80).

In Group A, Abdulkarim’s 687 series for day 20 did not make his best three of the competition, so his total of 2,265 and average of 251.7 remained unchanged, keeping him in second on the divisional rankings. Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines continued to lead with a 2,283 total and 253.7 average, while behind Abdulkarim was Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi from Saudi Arabia in third with marks of 2,207 and 245.2.

Ahmed Al Khaja (2,132, 236.9) and Ahmed Al Goud (2,129, 236.6) were fourth and fifth, respectively, whereas rounding off the top eight were Ahmed Fareed (2,119, 235.4), Ali Al Mass (2,118, 235.3) and Essa Taqi (2,099, 233.2). At the end of the qualifying round on April 21, bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa. Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers.
