Manama kept the pressure on defending champions Riffa atop the standings in the 2021/2022 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League following a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Muharraq in their Week 16 match last night. Bahrain international striker Mahdi Abduljabbar scored the winning goal for Manama with just a quarter-hour remaining in the match.

A pass from across the face of goal went uncleared and Abduljabbar pounced on the opportunity, finding the target from close range. Abdulrahman Ahmedi had put Muharraq ahead in the first half but then Isa Mousa equalised shortly after. Ahmedi struck in the 18th minute off an assist from teammate Rashed Khalil Ebrahim. But Manama were able to equalise just six minutes later with a fine free-kick from skipper Isa Mousa from a few metres outside the box.

Mousa’s curling right-footer flew into the bottom-left corner of goal, past the outstretched arm of Muharraq goalkeeper Sayed Mohammed Jaafar. The win was the 10th for Manama as they improved to 35 points on the table. They narrowed the gap to leaders Riffa to just three points, with only two match days remaining. Muharraq suffered their fifth loss and stayed on 27 points.
