Prince Mohammed scores big in Funland bowling qualifying

Prince Mohammed bin Sultan bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud from Saudi Arabia and Isa Akbari were the top scorers on the 23rd day of qualifying in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, being played at Funland Centre’s lanes.

Price Mohammed registered an impressive 744 series to lead all scorers in Group A, while Akbari had a 668 trial to top all participants in Group B.

Competitors in the tournament are being divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies.

Contestants from both groups in this first phase attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered.

Each trial is composed of three games. Qualifying action continues today as this stage of the cham[1]pionship is now headed for its last few days of play. Prince Mohammed continued his strong rise in the Group A standings with his 744 series, which was his best of the competition to date.

It added to his other top trials of 711 and 689 to bring his total to 2,144 for a 238.2 average—good enough for fifth place after previously being ranked 11th. Things stayed unchanged amongst the top three, with Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines still in the lead with a 2,283 total and 253.7 average.

Bahraini talent Abdulla Abdulkarim follows close behind with his 2,265 total and 251.7 average, while countryman and national team star Yousef Falah is third with his 2,217 total and 246.3 average In fourth, just ahead of Prince Mohammed, was fellow-Saudi Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi with a 2,207 total and 245.2 average, while behind Prince Mohammed in sixth through eighth, respectively, were Ahmed Al Khaja (2,132, 236.9), Ahmed Al Goud (2,129, 236.6) and Ahmed Fareed (2,119, 235.4).

Meanwhile, Akbari’s 668 trial was his best of the tournament. His two other top marks were 643 and 622, bringing his total to 1,933 for a 214.8 average as he climbed to fifth place. Filipino bowler Euly Salcedo still occupies first place, boasting a total of 2,005 with a 222.8 average.

Khalid Sameer remained second despite improving his total to 1,989 for a 221.0 average. Dexter De Asis (1,974, 219.3), also from the Philippines, and Ahmed Al Ansari (1,964, 218.2) were third and fourth.

Sami Saloom (1,925, 213.9), Ronald Seralvo (1,893, 210.3) from the Philippines and Abdulrahman Al Humaidan (1,839, 204.3) from Saudi completed the top eight.

At the end of the qualifying round this Thursday, bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa. Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers.
