Bahrain international athlete Abdelrahman Mahmoud clinched first place in the men’s shot put event in an athletics meeting held in Antalya, Turkey.
Mahmoud posted a winning throw of 19.98 metres to clinch first place overall amongst a highly competitive group of participants.
The 21-year-old competed in the event as part of his continued preparations for upcoming international championships. He is the current Asian indoor record-holder for the men’s shot put, which he set at 21.10m in January of last year.
That mark is also the Bahrain record and a personal best, while it also met the qualification standard for the Tokyo Olympics. With that, Mahmoud made sporting history as he became the Kingdom’s first-ever athlete to qualify for the men’s shot put competition at any Summer Games.
