Barqi, Busheri top scores in Funland Ramadan bowling

Adel Barqi from Saudi Arabia and Hussain Busheri came away with the daily high series prizes on the penultimate night of qualifying in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, being played at Funland Centre’s lanes.

Barqi registered a trial of 727 pins to post the top mark amongst Group A bowlers, while Busheri scored the leading series in Group B of 662 pins.

Competitors in the tournament are divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies. They have attempted trials as much as they needed in qualifying, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered.

The qualification phase ended yesterday night, and bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B advanced directly to round three. Bowlers in third through 16th from each group will play in round two.

Barqi’s 727 score was his best of the tournament, adding to his other top trials of 689 and 684. He improved his total to 2,100 for a 233.3 average, putting him in 12th overall on the Group A standings.

Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines was still in the lead in the division with his 2,283 total and 253.7 average, closely followed by Bahraini talent Abdulla Abdulkarim with a 2,265 total and 251.7 average.

Abdulkarim’s countryman and national team star Yousef Falah remained third with his 2,217 total and 246.3 average, while Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi from Saudi was fourth on a 2,207 total and 245.2 average.

Just a single pin behind in fifth was his compatriot Ziad Al Towareb, while Ali Al Mass (2,145, 238.3) was sixth, Prince Mohammed bin Sultan bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (2,144, 238.2) of Saudi seventh, and Ahmed Al Khaja (2,132, 236.9) eighth.

The rest of the top 16 with one night of qualifying left to play included Ahmed Al Goud, Ahmed Fareed, Essa Taqi, Barqi, JM Villanueva, Ziyad Al Kheliwi, Mohammed Mureed and Yousif Al Jarad. Meanwhile, Busheri’s Group B top score of 662 was his best mark in the tournament, and it added to his other leading trials of 619 and 604.

Busheri was able to raise his total to 1,885 for a 209.4 average, and go 10th in the category. Dexter De Asis stayed in first place but improved his total to 2,035 for a 226.1 average. Khalid Sameer and De Asis’s fellow-Filipino bowler Euly Salcedo followed, sharing similar 2,005 totals and 222.8 averages.

Sami Saloom was fourth with a 1,975 total and 219.4 average, with Ahmed Al Ansari in fifth on a 1,964 total and 218.2 average. The Group B top eight was rounded off by Isa Akbari (1,933, 214.8), Ziyad Al Awadhi (1,909, 212.1) and Khalid Al Goud (1,905, 211.7).

The rest of the leading 16 in Group B were Ronald Seralvo, Busheri, Shaker Daraj, Mohammed Daraj, Abdulaziz Al Zayani, Abdulrahman Al Ateiwi, Eman Adel and Abdulrahman Al Humaidan. The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022 is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa.
