Emerson Gotencio and Dexter De Asis were atop the standings of their respective groups at the end of the qualifying round in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, currently being played at Funland Centres lanes.

Gotencio completed the competition’s opening stage in first place amongst Group A participants, and along with Bahraini star Abdulla Abdulkarim, booked their places directly to the third round. De Asis did the same as the leader in Group B, while advancing directly to his division’s third stage along with local talent Khalid Sameer. Competitors in the tournament have been divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies.

They have attempted trials as much as they needed in qualifying, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered. In Group A, Gotencio completed the qualification phase with the best pinfalls total of 2,283 and a 253.7 average. He was in the lead from the tournament’s early days and did well to keep the number one spot. Abdulkarim followed with a 2,265 total and 251.7 average, fending off some tough competition.

The others to make it out of this first round and qualify for round two from third to 16th, respectively, were Bahrain international bowling superstar Yousef Falah, Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi from Saudi Arabia, Ziad Al Towareb from Saudi, Ali Al Mass, Ahmed Al Khaja, Prince Mohammed bin Sultan bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud from Saudi, Ahmed Al Goud, Ahmed Fareed, Essa Taqi, Adel Barqi from Saudi, JM Villanueva from the Philippines, and the Saudi trio of Ziyad Al Kheliwi, Sultan Al Masri and Yousif Al Jarad.

In Group B, De Asis finished as the top man with a 2,060 total and 228.9 average. Sameer followed in second on a 2,005 total and 222.8 average. Ranked third through 16th and making it to round two for this division were Euly Salcedo from the Philippines, Sami Saloom, Ahmed Al Ansari, Isa Akbari, Ziyad Al Awadhi, Khalid Al Goud, Ronald Seralvo from the Philippines, Hussain Busheri, Shaker Daraj, Eman Adel, Abdulaziz Al Zayani, Mohammed Daraj, Abdulrahman Al Ali and Waleed Daraj.

In round two, the bowlers will play five games within their groups. The top six from each group according to their total pinfalls with handicap will advance to the third round. There, they will join the top two bowlers from Groups A and B in qualifying, to form a single 16-bowler field. They will go head-to-head in eight single-game matches, with the opponents based on the ranking from the previous stages.

The winners from each match advance to round four, while the losers will be ranked ninth to 16th on the final classification. In the fourth round, the eight remaining bowlers will go headto-head once more, with the match-ups based on their ranking from the previous stage.

The four victors will march through to the semi-finals, with the losers to be ranked fifth through eighth. The tournament’s fifth and last round will feature both the semi-finals and final. The semis are once again in matchplay format, with the winners advancing to the title-decider. The final will be played over one game, and the winner will be declared champion, taking home a cool BD1,200 in winnings, with all others in the top 16 also coming away with prize money.

The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022 is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa.
