Sultan Al Masri and Waleed Daraj spearheaded bowlers from their respective groups into the third round of the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, currently being held at Funland Centre’s lanes. Al Masri from Saudi Arabia topped a field of six from Group A in the competition’s second phase to march through to the ensuing stage of knockouts, while Daraj did the same in Group B. They were competing amongst a field of 14 bowlers in their groups, playing five games each, for the right to claim one of six berths moving forward.
Al Masri was joined amongst the advancing Group A contenders by fellow-Saudi Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi, Bahrain international star Yousef Falah, Ali Al Mass, and the Saudi pair of Ziyad Al Kheliwi and Adel Barqi. From Group B, Daraj made it through with Ahmed Al Ansari, Shaker Daraj, Hussain Busheri, Abdulaziz Al Zayani and Ronald Seralvo from the Philippines.
The 12 next join the four bowlers who advanced directly from qualifying to form a single, 16-player field that will go headto-head in knockout games. That quartet includes Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines and Abdulla Abdulkarim who were first and second in Group A during the qualification round, and Dexter De Asis from the Philippines and Khalid Sameer who were the top two of Group B. Competitors in the tournament have been divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced bowlers and Group B for beginners and ladies.
In the third round, the players will battle regardless of their group, and the winners of the eight matches will move through to round four, where they will once again go head-to-head. Those winners will then march through to the semi-finals and eventually the final. In the second round, Al Masri topped Group A after playing a total of 1,240 pins over five games for a 248.00 average. Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi followed with a 1,195 total and 239.00 average, and Falah was third on a 1,140 total for a 228.00 average.
Al Mass finished fourth with a 1,101 total and 220.20 average, while Ziyad Al Kheliwi (1,076, 215.20) and Barqi (1,055, 211.00) made it through ranked fifth and sixth. Eliminated from further contention from Group A were Ahmed Al Goud, Prince Mohammed bin Sultan bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Ziyad Al Towareb, JM Villanueva, Essa Taqi, Ahmed Al Khaja, Ahmed Fareed and Yousif Al Jarad.
In Group B, Waleed Daraj led the participants to go through with a 1,097 total and 219.40 average. Al Ansari was second-best in this stage with a 1,069 total for a 213.80 average, and Shaker Daraj came third with a 1,022 total and 204.40 average.
Busheri followed with a 985 total and 197.00 average, and Al Zayani (979, 195.80) and Seralvo (963, 192.60) completed the advancing six. Those who did not go through were Abdulrahman Al Ali, Sami Saloom, Ziyad Al Awadhi, Isa Akbari, Eman Adel, Euly Salcedo, Mohammed Daraj and Khalid Al Goud.
