Smith set for IAME karting challenge

Bahrain-based motor racing talent Lewis Smith is set to compete in one of the region’s leading karting championships over the next several weeks. The up-and-coming 16-year-old Briton, who is being supported by global technology solution giants JBT Corporation, will be showcasing his prowess in both rounds of the widely popular IAME Summer Series, taking place at the RAK Track at Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE.

The IAME Summer Series is a premier karting championship that is held annually under the umbrella of the IAME Series, with racers coming from all over the world to be a part of the action. Smith will be contesting both rounds of this year’s IAME Summer Series, beginning with this coming weekend on Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, and then again on June 11 and 12.

He will be racing in the Senior/Master class, which is the highest level in the championship. Commenting ahead of his participation, Smith said: “I am greatly looking forward to racing in an IAME Series event once again. “I’ve competed there a few times in the past, and it has always been a very challenging championship from which I can continue my development. “I also enjoy racing on different circuits across the region and all over the world.

I am able to gain good experience, especially going up against other talented young karters who have the same aspirations as I do. “I would like to greatly thank JBT Corporation for their truly valuable support.

“I hope to do well in the two rounds of the IAME Summer Series and make JBT, my family, and my peers in Bahrain’s motorsport community proud.” In this weekend’s first meeting, testing will be held on opening day Saturday, to be followed by the highly competitive sessions of Qualifying Practice, the Pre-Finals and the Finals on Sunday evening.

Smith is one of Bahrain’s top young karters who has been honing his skills in the Kingdom. He regularly competes in national, regional and international championships and continues to excel.
