The pairing of Mary Abrash and Bana Izzi from Syria have been crowned champions of the girls’ doubles category in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) 14 and Under Development Championships for West and Central Asia, being hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF).

The competition is the second ITF event in as many weeks being played at the BTF courts in Isa Town. Mary and Bana won their crown with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over compatriots Alya Almorawed and Yara Kayal in the division final.

Mary and Bana now have a chance to go for a title double in the competition, as they will be meeting in the girls’ singles final, scheduled to take place today. Meanwhile, top seed Mohammad Alawadhi set up an all-Kuwaiti boys’ singles final against fourth seed Abdulrahman Abdullah.

Alawadhi booked his berth in the title contest following a 6-0, 6-1 win against Bahraini third seed Ahmed Ibrahim. Abdullah followed suit but needed three sets to oust Bahraini second seed Hashim Altoobli 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Alawadhi and Abdullah will meet in the final today. Just like amongst the girls, both boys’ singles finalists are also contenders for the boys’ doubles crown. Alawadhi and Alabdullah will meet Ibrahim and Altoobli once again in their final clash. Today is the final day of the ITF event at the BTF.
