Bahrain’s senior men’s national team suffered their second successive defeat last night in the men’s basketball tournament at the third GCC Games in Kuwait, bowing to the hosts 57-64 in yet another setback in their medal bid.
The nationals faced an early deficit and were down 26-35 at the half, but tried valiantly to fight back and came within 43-46 at the end of the third quarter. The Kuwaitis did enough in the final canto, however, and came away with the hard-earned result.
Naturalized big man Wayne Chism was the Bahrainis’ top scorer in the game with 18 points, but he was their only player in double figures.
Ahmed Salman contributed eight, while Ali Jaber added seven and Mohammed Ameer scored six. Skipper Hussain Shaker, Maitham Jameel and Muzamil Ameer all finished with five points in the loss.
For Kuwait, Mohammad Hasan had 16 to lead their team, while Omran Jawhar finished with 11. The win was the second straight for the Kuwaitis as they remained undefeated in two contests.
