Bahrain’s swimmers, shooters make solid start to medal bids

Bahrain’s swimmers and shooters had solid results yesterday in their first day of action at the third GCC Games in Kuwait, although missed out on a medal finish.
In swimming, Bahrain’s Farhan Farhan finished sixth overall in the men’s 200 metres freestyle with a time of two minutes 05.22 seconds.
Compatriot Mohamed Rashed was ranked seventh out of nine competitors with a time of 2:05.49. Gold went to Yousuf Almatrooshi of the UAE in 1:52.95.
Meanwhile, in shooting yesterday, Mahmood Haji narrowly missed out on a place in the gold medal match of the men’s 50m rifle three positions. He was classified fourth in the event’s final elimination with 384.5 points.
Issam Al Balushi of Oman went on to win the gold medal with 396.9 points, while Abdulaziz Alanazi claimed silver with 389.2 points. Both Bahrain’s swimmers and shooters will be back in action today in Kuwait, while Bahrain’s women’s futsal team will also take to their playing court.
The Bahraini women hope to claim their second win in as many tries in futsal when they face off with the UAE at 4.30pm. The nationals will look to maintain their winning record after earlier defeating Saudi Arabia in their opening clash on Monday.
