Bahrainis Hashim Altoobli and Ahmed Ibrahim were crowned boys’ doubles champions in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) 14 and Under Development Championships for West and Central Asia, hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) this week.
The competition was the second ITF event in as many weeks played at the BTF courts in Isa Town, and it came to a close with the last finals matches. Altoobli and Ibrahim clinched their title with a resounding 7-6, 6-1 victory over the second-seeded Kuwaiti pair of Mohammad Alawadhi and Abdulrahman Alabdullah from Kuwait.
Altoobli and Ibrahim were able to live up to their tag as boys’ doubles top seeds with the result, and they also avenged their loss to Alawadhi and Alabdullah in the previous ITF tournament held at the BTF last week. Mean while , Alawadhi clinched the boys’ singles title after defeating Alabdullah 6-1, 6-1 in the division final.
It was the second successive ITF championship for Alawadhi in Bahrain, having also won in last week’s competition. On the distaff, Mary Abrash from Syria completed a fantastic title double after winning the girls’ singles final. She beat compatriot Bana Izzi 6-1, 6-4 in the title-decider.
Mary and Bana had previously teamed up to capture the girls’ doubles crown. Mary came away with both first place trophies for the second event in a row, having done the same in last week’s ITF competition. After the completion of the matches, the winners and the runners-up were presented their respective medals in an awarding ceremony attended by BTF president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa. BTF secretary general Fuad Al Rowaie was also on hand, along with other officials.
The tournament was held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Sultan bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
