Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi set a new personal best en route to taking an impressive second place in the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase at the Prefontaine Classic held in Eugene, Oregon in the US. Fresh from winning a double gold at the GCC Games in Kuwait earlier this month, Winfred turned her focus to the international stage and continued her fine form at the highest of levels.
The meeting was a Diamond League event, which is the most prestigious meeting on the annual global circuit of World Athletics. Winfred completed the race in eight minutes 58.71 seconds, not far behind winner Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan who set a world leading mark of 8:57.97.
Winfred shattered her previous personal best of 9:02.64, which she set last year. She also managed to go below the nine-minute mark for the first time in her international career.
