Bahrain win two bronze medals at GCC Games

Bahrain added two more medals yesterday on the penultimate day of action at the third GCC Games in Kuwait. Bandar Abdulla and Abdulrahman Aladhamat each came away with a bronze medal in their respective weight classes in men’s karate.

Abdulla claimed his bronze in the men’s kumite under-55kg category, while Aladhamat won his in the men’s kumite under-60kg class. Their medals brought the Kingdom’s medal tally at the GCC Games to 59 heading into the final day of competition.

The total includes 20 gold, 21 silver and 18 bronze medals. Bahrain continue to occupy second place on the six-nation medal table, behind leaders Kuwait, and ahead of the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Go for gold Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Salem Al Juma will have a chance to win a gold medal today in karate in the men’s kumite under-84kg category when he faces off with Faraj Alnashri of Saudi Arabia in their final bout.

That is scheduled for later today at 4.30pm. Also hoping to win some medals today are Bahrain’s fencing, tennis and handball national teams.

Bahrain’s fencers are set to compete against various opponents, while the tennis team will be facing Qatar in their concluding men’s team matchup and the handball squad will also be taking on their Qatari counterparts in their last fixture.

Both the Bahraini and Qatari handball teams are undefeated after three matches, and the winner will take the gold. Following the handball final, the third GCC Games’ official closing ceremony will take place.
